There can be several reasons why your lights blink. Usually, blinking lights are the result of momentary outages that occur when some type of disturbance exists on the line. This could be a lighting strike, an automobile hitting a pole, a squirrel or tree branch coming in contact with a power line, causing a short circuit. It is also possible that your electrical service could be the problem.
Actually, when your lights blink, it’s because Twin Valleys Public Power District equipment is operating properly. Our system includes special devices called reclosers that operate when there’s a short circuit. If the short circuit is temporary the recloser permits power to continue flowing through the line with only a brief interruption. Usually, reclosers will operate, or trip, three times before a complete loss of power occurs. This gives whatever caused the short circuit a chance to clear the lines.
If the contact or problem becomes severe enough your power may be interrupted. First, check your breakers or fuses and make sure that isn’t the problem. If they are OK, call our office at 308-697-3315 or 800-658-4266 immediately and notify us of the problem.
Many times we experience a blink in power and don’t even realize it until we look at one of our digital clocks, clocks on appliances, DVD players, etc. and they are flashing. No one enjoys resetting all of their clocks or appliances so you may want to buy clocks that have battery back-up features in the future.
If you experience frequent power blinks or interruptions, you may have an electrical problem that should be checked out. Call the Twin Valleys Public Power District office at 308-697-3315 or 800-658-4266.
